Plot Summary

Is there life after death? There certainly seems to be for Mabel Lederer. Her husband, Hughie, has passed on and with him goes Mabel Lederer. For Mabel reinvents herself with a new name, a new town, and undertakes a slightly off-center new profession… “I dabble in the supernatural.” This lovely adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s unfinished novel stars Estelle Parsons (Bonnie and Clyde), Sylvia Sidney (Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams) and a host of delightfully eccentric friends. A charming added attraction is the voice of deceased Hughie, portrayed by a famous popcorn celebrity, and Oscar favorite, “P. L. Neuman,” a.k.a. Paul Newman.
