Rotten: An incoherent documentary about the annual Burning Man arts festival in the northern Nevada desert. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Less sentiment and more peculiarity would have limned a richer, though probably less audition-tape-worthy, reflection of Burning Man's 25,000-strong community of the absurd. – Richard Gehr, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: It's like being trapped at a fascinating party with a boring guide. – Joe Brown, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 1, 2003

Poorly done

For such an extraordinary event, this film fails on many levels. It follows a group of individuals who appear to be lost and seeking a connection to "something." But the characters are so uninteresting, and it's so poorly filmed, it's a waste.

Ultimately, the chatscters seem too self-absorbed to be able to connect to, or even truly enjoy the week or the people and experiences around them. There is no story here, and so there is no climax or ending.

The best parts are the few interviews and interactions with people outside of the crew's "bubble," but here again, it's flat as the filming appears to have been done on handycams without any thought put in to composition or exposure.

There are a few great burning man docs out there, this is not one of them.

A great movie about the great burn

A great depiction of what Burning Man is. I always have trouble describing to people what Burning Man is like and this movie deffinatly shows a great example. If your curious about Burning Man or just need something to fill the gap between burns, you should really check this movie out.
