Plot Summary
Legendary director Jean-Luc Godard’s CONTEMPT is a movie within a movie – on the surface, the film is about a director (Michel Piccoli) whose wife Camille (Brigitte Bardot) falls out of love with him while he is rewriting an adaptation of Homer’s “Odyssey” for an American producer (Jack Palance). But underneath this tragic tale of a doomed romance lies Godard’s true subject: the commercial film industry, which he shows his contempt for in a directing performance that is slyly subversive, darkly comic and completely original.

Filmmaking
Movies about making a movie are normally soooo boring.
Now of course if you have a Fritz Lang that is making a movie this changes everything, especially as he is not very impressed about the nasty American producer. But this is about where the stereotypes end, as the viewer is taken into a journey within Italy where it is (still even in 2010) the most beautiful, to rediscover a controversial masterpiece of fascist architecture, and last but not least a stunning BB the plays her role of ' je m'enfoute_isme' to perfection. And luckily, unlike the Odyssey this story does not end on a happy note, but I think this is for the one that has not seen it to discover...
Godard, Homer, Fritz Lang, and Jack Palance. Bridget Bardot, all of her.
Wide screen cinematography by Raoul Coutard. The format most suited to snakes and funerals. A catalog of Bridget Bardot's parts. Fritz Lang vs Jack Palance. Another Godard masterpiece.
