Plot Summary

Based on Neale Donald Walsch’s best-selling books, Conversations with God chronicles the dramatic true story of a struggling man turned homeless who unexpectedly becomes a spiritual messenger. After breaking his neck in a car accident, Walsch loses his job, his home, and is reduced to begging coins from strangers in the streets. Struggling to get back on his feet, he finds work and a place to live, but life, for him, is still unbearably hard. In the wee hours of the morning, overcome with anger and bitterness, Walsch writes an angry letter to God, demanding answers to his questions. To his eternal astonishment, he receives an answer.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A coda after the closing credits, encouraging divine dialogues in general, does little to dispel the hagiographic aftertaste. – Andy Webster, New York Times, May 12, 2009

Rotten: The story of Walsch's travails never strains credulity, though helmer Simon's predilection for spiritual vistas with light breaking through clouds, arrested close-ups and endless long dissolves often skirts kitsch. – Ronnie Scheib, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: OK, Lord... For starters, since when do you talk like Dr. Phil? – William Lobdell, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Rotten: This film adaptation of Neale Donald Walsch's best-selling book series plays more like an infomercial than a thoughtful exploration of religious issues. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

They tried really hard.

This is proof that by having nice equipment to make a film doesn't mean it will make a better movie.
