Plot Summary

One of the most iconic science fiction movies of all-time, Creature From the Black Lagoon is a groundbreaking classic showcasing Hollywood magic at its best. When scientists exploring the Amazon River stumble upon a "missing link" connecting humans and fish, they plan to capture it for later study. The creature has plans of his own, however, inspired by the lead scientist's (Richard Carlson) beautiful fiancée (Julie Adams). Well-acted and directed, and with Bud Westmore's brilliantly designed monster, Creature From the Black Lagoon remains a masterpiece not only of the genre, but of all time.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This adventure has no depth. – A.H. Weiler, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Jack Arnold has a flair for this sort of thing, and if there really is anything frightening about a man dressed up in a rubber suit with zippers where the gills ought to be, Arnold comes close to finding it. – Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: What distinguished Jack Arnold's pictures from mutant spinoffs/knockoffs is even more imperative to sci-fi today than it was in 1954: wonderment. – Steve Macfarlane, Slant Magazine, Oct 11, 2012

Fresh: The underwater sequences were excellently shot by Havens, and the make-up for the half man, half fish was a masterful creation by Bud Westmore and Jack Keven. – Film4, Jun 24, 2010

WOW!!

Apple, I guess many people got to request some good Universal Monster flicks after all. And by the way, thanks for this choice. I've always loved the Creature from the Black Lagoon because its always been a very cool B-Movie. If any of you love sci-fi or monsters for that matter, then get this movie while you still can. It's awesome! Keep up the good work Apple!

I've been waiting for this one!!

With the exception of Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein and The Invisible Man, this is my favorite "Universal" horror movie of all time!!
