Plot Summary

Immigrants from around the world enter Los Angeles every day, with hopeful visions of a better life, but little notion of what that life may cost. Their desperate scenarios test the humanity of immigration enforcement officers. In Crossing Over, writer-director Wayne Kramer explores the allure of the American dream, and the reality that immigrants find – and create -- in 21st century L.A. Kramer's intersecting stories, both cathartic and tragic, are brought to life by an international ensemble. The film stars Academy Award® nominee Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Cliff Curtis, Jim Sturgess, Alice Eve, Alice Braga, Justin Chon and Summer Bishil.

Fantastic film!

i had never heard of this film until i saw it on itunes. frankly, i bought it because of the stars - i was in no mood to search further for a film the night i bought it. i was really taken by this film. no, it's not a francis ford coppola masterpiece. but after years of watching movies, i've seen all those important films. crossing over is a compelling story. well acted. harrison ford playing much deeper and darker than he has since blade runner. amazing cinematography - this movie shows contemporary LA in a way that looks great now, and will look great in 20 years. like taxi driver / nyc. highly recommend. don't believe the haters who've written the other reviews.

If you get your wake-up call...

...from this movie then please just roll over and go back to sleep. This is one-sided propaganda masquerading as entertanment. The problem is its not entertaining. But hey, if you don't mind being preached to for the better part of 2 hours go for it.

A film told by someone who clearly knows nothing of the cultural worlds the film inhabits.

The film was incredibly contrived, the characters were very two dimensional, and for the most part unbelievable. I did not agree with the writer’s stances which were unconvincingly shoved into the film. The inhumanity of some of the characters was shocking, and when characters did show some sort of human empathy it seemed forced and unauthentic. The film needed better research, more time on the script and ULTIMATELY greater empathy for the people and cultures represented. It’s a shame because the film certainly had the capacity to be extremely graceful and touching.
