Plot Summary
Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, TV's The Office), Hollywood's leading funnyman, stars in the hilarious comedy that's bursting with charm -- a movie you'll watch again and again. Advice columnist Dan Burns (Carell) is an expert on relationships, but somehow struggles to succeed as a brother, a son and a single parent to three precocious daughters. Things get even more complicated when Dan finds out that the woman he falls in love with is actually his brother's new girlfriend. Carell is joined by a brilliant all-star supporting cast, including Juliette Binoche, Dane Cook, John Mahoney and Dianne Wiest, for a heartfelt, fun-filled comedy that's "laugh-out-loud funny" -- Steve Oldfield, FOX.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Now, everybody knows that Steve Carell is lovable.
Rotten: Why must so many family-friendly romantic comedies give us such wan, forgettable dialogue and predictable situations? Dan is derivative at best, and feels like filmmaking by focus group at worst.
Fresh: This is his [Carell's] most assured and rounded performance to date.
Fresh: Dan in Real Life fires on so many circuits that at times it's actually shocking how good it is. It tells a funny and emotional story without any of the sentimental shorthand found in most romantic comedies.

My Favorite Movie Ever!
Dan In Real Life is a great, heart-warming, funny, and enjoyable movie. Steve Carrell's portrayal of 'Dan,' a single father who struggles to meet face to face with his three daughters, is absolutely outstanding! Also, Dane Cook, who is normally very crude and inappropriate, is able to settle down and play his role as Dan's brother perfectly. This movie is a great movie for people of all ages...it will make you long to spend a weekend with your quirky family!
This movie is only getting bad reviews because ...
... (a) apparently, people were expecting some sort of thoughtless comedy (one reviewer actually compares this to "Evan Almighty"), and (b) as is the case with every movie ever made, wannabe movie buffs and film students feel the need to criticize the work of others for no good reason (the very same people who criticize this movie for being unpolished and unrealistic probably rave about "Juno," one of the most unpolished and unrealistic movies I've seen in a long, long time ... and still enjoyed). Get over yourselves, people. Anyone older than 16 who's actually experienced many of the ups and downs of relationships (be they romantic, familial, or otherwise) will appreciate this movie. Life-changing? No. But worth renting (and perhaps buying)? Without a doubt.
The cutest romance story
This love story has comedy, drama, and passion. Everything about this movie makes you want to fall in love all over again. Steve Carrell still the funny man we all now but now we see a deeper level to his acting. He shows us great emotion when it comes to love and family problems. A great movie one of my favorites!
