Plot Summary
Jeff Balsmeyer makes his writing and directing debut with the Australian romantic comedy Danny Deckchair. Rhys Ifans plays Danny Morgan, a building tradesman living in the Sydney suburbs with his upwardly mobile real-estate agent girlfriend, Trudy (Justine Clarke). When she chooses to postpone their vacation together in order to show a house to TV personality Sandy Upman (Rhys Muldoon), Danny takes matters into his own hands by fastening helium balloons to a chair and sailing over the city. Landing in the small town of Clarence, he meets and falls in love with parking cop Glenda (Miranda Otto).

Fresh: Danny's a nice enough guy and it's a nice enough movie, if your standards aren't too strict and your tastes not too elitist -- and you don't get overly miffed about huge gaping plot holes all over a movie.
Fresh: You'll probably forget Danny Deckchair a few minutes after leaving the theater, but it passes the time well enough while you're there.
Rotten: What you might call conditional whimsy, predicated on the audience overlooking so many plot implausibilities that it might get tuckered out from all the charity.
Rotten: A splendid movie while its hero is preparing for his flight and actually experiencing it, but it's not nearly as interesting once he descends to earth.

Horray for Australian Comedies....
Excellent Film. Good Story, it is hard to find a comedy with heart that has a sense of realistic characters. You will be really pleased renting this film. I would have paid full price! With so many dumb and crass comedies being made in Hollywood this film can show the entertainment industry what a movie with heart should look like.
