Plot Summary

Set in the Los Angeles Police Department in April 1992, Dark Blue is a dramatic thriller that takes place just days before the acquittal of four white officers in the beating of black motorist Rodney King and the subsequent L.A. riots. In this racially charged climate, the L.A.P.D's elite Special Investigations Squad (SIS) is assigned a high-profile quadruple homicide. As they work the case, veteran detective Eldon Perry (Kurt Russell), known for his tough street tactics and fiery temper, tutors SIS rookie Bobby Keough (Scott Speedman) in the grim realities of police intimidation.

good

This movie is not like all the other action shoot em ups. This has some substance and is historically correct. Kurt Russell is the perfect guy. Good buy trust me

critics got it wrong!!!

if you like this genre of movie (and possibly if you don't), you are really cheating yourself if you don't give this one a day in court! i saw it in theatrical release, and purchased it the first day it came out! the story unfolds over the backdrop of the infamous rodney king verdict, and comes to a truly powerful climax. great cast, topical story, and superb performances make this one a classic !!!

It's no Training Day

I was excited to see Dark Blue because it was the one film written by David Ayer I had not seen and I'm a fan of his. He's had some good ones: U571, Training Day. SWAT was terrible but I forgave that. Enter Dark Blue. It's a decent script with a decent story. The acting, however, is awful save almost entirely for Kurt Russell. This film could have been great with a better cast. The directing is nothing special and at one point during Russell's confession, the camera starts shaking as if someone ran into it. The first 15-20 minutes of act 3 are really solid but that's hardly a consolation prize for the rest of the film. In summation, this film is possibly worth a rent but not a buy.
