Plot Summary
Bogey's on the lam and Bacall's at his side in Dark Passage, Delmer Daves' stylish film-noir thriller that's the third of four films Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall made together. Bogart is Vincent Parry, a prison escapee framed for murder who emerges from plastic surgery with a new face. Bacall is Irene Jansen, Vincent's lone ally. In a supporting role, Agnes Moorehead portrays Madge, a venomous harpy who finds pleasure in the unhappiness of others. The chemistry of the leads is undeniable, and they augment it here with exceptional tenderness. Exceptional, too, are the atmospheric San Francisco locations and the imaginative camera work that shows Vincent's point of view - but not his face - until the bandages are removed. Lest Irene get ideas, the post-surgery Vincent tells her: "Don't change yours. I like it just as it is." So do we.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Even though bored by the story -- which, because of its sag, you may be -- you can usually enjoy the scenery, which is as good as a travelogue.
Fresh: This thriller is not quite up to the best Hitchcock, but it does prove that Delmer Daves is a man to watch. And The Dark Passage is a picture to see.
Fresh: What starts out as a thriller switches en route into a sagging, psychological drama, but recovers in time to give out with the satisfying gory stuff.
Fresh: The structure and character sense of the David Goodis novel are intact, and a full-throttle supporting cast has a ball with meaty parts.

got to love it when the reviews don't match the movie. This movie though has always been a classic. Rent it, relax and enjoy it!
Interesting gimick
The gimick of the first part of the movie being from Bogart's perspective so that we do not see his face for almost the first half of the movie may put some people off. But it is a good mystery and an entertaining film. If you like Bogey and Bacal you should like this.
