Plot Summary
Writer-director Julia Loktev's (Moment of Impact) harrowing, claustrophobic thriller Day Night Day Night plunges the audience into the world of a suicide bomber just prior to her final, fatal act. As the film opens, a young woman (played by Luisa Williams) prays to an unknown, unspecified deity, then tucks away into a fleabag New Jersey motel room, when several hooded men arrive, arm her with explosives, and give her instructions to carry out. She then takes off alone, headed straight for Times Square, and making her way through clamoring throngs of real people — any of whom could instantly become her casualties. Loktev strips away much of the external exposition, never revealing the central character's name, ethnicity, religious affiliation, or political background. The director thus forces the audience to focus, exclusively and unrelentingly, on the nature of the character's actions, and underscores the idea that terrorist motivations are, on some level, completely inconceivable to an outsider. Ironically, instead of turning the central character into a cipher and thus distancing her from the viewer, the film's stripped exposition terrifyingly draws the audience closer to the character. Josh Phillip Weinstein and Gareth Saxe co-star.

Fresh: Day Night Day Night, a movie about a suicide bomber, may be serious, and it is certainly sure of itself. But it is also maddeningly, purposefully evasive.
Rotten: A stunt masquerading as a statement.
Fresh: By turns frustrating and impressive in its austerity.
Fresh: You spend the film wondering and speculating, looking for clues, and watching carefully.

Really Bad
I luv independent, offbeat movies. But this movie is really bad. And this movie is bad on so many different levels. While the storyline has so much potential, the Director and Writer of the film let a great opportunity go by. You will like this movie "if": (i) you think terrorist are generally bored and like to hang around in bathrooms wearing hoods that don't fit right; (ii) suicide bombers are women who can travel the country with only one outfit and pair of shoes; (iii) suicide bombers are fanatical about cleaning their body, yet they are very messy eaters and hang out in filthy bathrooms; (iv) there are multi-cultural terrorist organizations; (v) New Yorkers never cross the street when the sign reads "Don't Walk"; and (vi) suicide bombers are flawless when practicing for their mission, but they completely lose their nerve when the time comes to push the button.
AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL
You know how reality tv shows mash up the best parts of a week to make it seem as though the participants lives are always wild and crazy? That's how this trailer was. The movie is like watching the ENTIRE WEEK. I kept waiting for something to happen. This is one of the best previews I've ever seen. The movie looked interesting, and turned out to be an hour and a half of a girl a) eating b) bathing or c) repeating her instructions in a deadly boring monotone. This could have easily been a great 20 minute short film, but they murdered it. Don't waste your time or money
I Get It, Really.
Sorry but this movie wasn't a movie at all. Even with a ruse there's some closure. I got the movie (even though there is a HUGE possibility that there isn't anything to get) and even then I still disliked it. It's a wonder how movies like this get made let alone get on iTunes or any other mainstream media distribution. I have buyer's remorse, or should I say, renter's remorse. Either way movies like these is what makes things like iTunes loose it's credibility and integrity. I get that people THINK the movie is good because it doesn't go the path of stereotypes and therefore making it better (which it's not) but to give this movie ANY kind of accolade is to applaud someone for taking a dump, which in many rights, is the same thing.
