Plot Summary

Oscar nominee Kenneth Branagh (Henry V) and Oscar winner Emma Thompson (Howards End*) give dazzling dual-role performances in this supernatural-tinged romantic murder mystery. Mike Church (Branagh) is a L.A. gumshoe with a knack for tossing off wisecracks and tracking down missing persons. But Church doesn't have a clue when he's hired to help a beautiful amnesia victim (Thompson) tormented by blood-curdling nightmares. Then an eccentric antiques dealer and hypnotist (Derek Jacobi) leads Church to a startling discovery: The source of the nightmares may lie in a past-life connection to Margaret Strauss, a world-famous pianist allegedly murdered by her composer husband... in 1948. In the classic tradition of Spellbound and Rebecca, Dead Again "brings an entertaining genre back to life" (Tom Jacobs, Los Angeles Daily News). Costarring Andy Garcia.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A big, convoluted, entertainingly dizzy romantic mystery melodrama. It's also another coup de cinema for Mr. Branagh. – Lawrence Van Gelder, New York Times, Oct 25, 2010

Fresh: The movie isn't just unpretentious; it's garishly, thrillingly vulgar. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Oct 25, 2010

Rotten: A miscalculation from a prodigious talent who has forgotten that you squeeze the life out of romance when you don't give it space to breathe. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Fresh: Director and star Kenneth Branagh brings the same zest and bravura style to this actors' romp of a mystery-thriller as he did to Henry V. – Variety Staff, Variety, Oct 25, 2010

Dead Again

When this movie came out in the early '90's, I immediately went to see it because of Kenneth Branagh & Emma Thompson (loved them both in Henry V). This is a really interesting movie - suspenseful & has an interesting twist at the end. It switches between b&w and color to show the different time periods. Love the costumes. Love, love Derek Jacobi in this!!

One of the greatest movies of our time...

This movie is fantastic! It's suspenseful, funny, and romantic. It is definitely a movie I can watch over and over again. Emma Thompson and Kenneth Branagh are excellent actors and are so exciting to watch.

A new classic!

This is a great film--it has classic flavor with a new twist. I love Kenneth Branaugh and Emma Thompson together--what a combination of talent. Great story line, wonderful plot twists, and a really great appearance by Robin Williams. If you like mysteries with a paranormal flair, this is a perfect choice.
