Plot Summary

Professor Robert Leaf is deeply suspicious of the emphasis placed on science within his university, so he tries to suffuse a love of art and music within his two children. Needless to say, he and his wife Vina are slightly horrified to discover that their young son Erasmus is a mathematical genius with a noticeable disinterest in music or art. Thinking only about using Erasmus' gift for his own benefit, his older friend Kenneth immediately comes up with a plan to make a killing at the racetrack. Working out a deal with his less-than-altruistic buddy, Erasmus agrees to help pick racehorses if Kenneth helps him meet his idol, Brigitte Bardot.

Weak and unfunny

One of the few Jimmy Stewart vehicles that doesn't work.

Prime example of how and why certain films that was dealt, what should have been a winning hand, turns in a loser because of the direction. Sadly, Henry Koster was clearly in the twilight of his amazing career.

Don't get me wrong, Koster's films rank among some of my favorites - including the incredible 'Bishop's Wife' and Jimmy Stewart's self-proclaimed favorite film 'Harvey'. But this was mishandled in so many ways it's difficult to critique without seeming mean-spirited.

Suffice to say that it's only worth a rental for hardcore fans of Jimmy Stewart, otherwise I would recommend a pass.
