Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A would-be erotic thriller with no heat and zero chills, Deception has the kind of glassy, glossy sheen and risible story that mean to suggest Basic Instinct but instead invoke lesser laughers like Jade and Sliver. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Everything is wrong pretty much from the start of this misbegotten adventure in Adrian Lyne territory, including but not limited to the strained mind games that drive the plot, and the tentative New York accents on the actors from Australia and Scotland. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Despite a cast that includes double-crossers Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams caught in the middle, the film is a yawn. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Deception would be laughably bad if it weren't so rotely inert. – Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Delightful Deception

Overall it was a pleasurable experience. I definitely would've liked it to be a little longer and develop some more critical plot aspects. However, It'l hold your attention and entertain you as the idea of this anonymous A-list comes to light.

Awful

Do not rent, buy, or waste your time watching this movie. The acting in this movie for the most part was unbearable to watch. Watching Ewen McGregor try to act is worse than having to stare at that wart on his forehead for two hours. The only redeeming quality of the acting was occasional scenes with Hugh Jackman, who even then was overshadowed by McGregor's awfulness. The thriller aspect of the plot was so predictable, overdone and already used, and even worse was the un-realistic, cheesy love story aspect of the movie. Whoever wrote this movie should not be earning a living off of writing movie scripts along with the people who thought it would be a good idea to produce. If you are simple minded and like to watch softcore porn on the big screen, then this is the only way you will enjoy this movie.

Suspenseful and Captivating

Great plot, with new and creative concept for 21st Century heist. Kept me off guard all the way up until the ending. A MUST SEE.
