Plot Summary

DEFORCE is a documentary about Detroit City’s modern history. Once viewed as a model for America, in just over 40-years Detroit has experienced the largest fall in living standards and population of any large American city. How did this happen? Popular explanations of what occurred center on the collapse of the auto-industry. But when you actually see just how different the City is from the communities that border it, it's clear just how incomplete that explanation is. In reality, Detroit's problems are 100% political in nature. For decades, Federal, State and Local officials have mismanaged the City to the point that a man born in Detroit today is more likely to face jail time then he is to graduate from college. DEFORCE reveals what really happened.

Great movie about the challeges Detroiters face.....

I first heard about Deforce from my Mother who saw it on The Documentary Channel. I missed the airing and decided to download it. This is a deep and critical look at Detroit. Detroit faces some of the same challenges that many American cities face yet, have had an extrordinarily harder road to pull ourselves from out of the depression and poverty experienced for over 50 years. Deforce takes a look at that through the eyes of many Detroiters and how they, in their way, have tried to make Detroit better or cope with the daily struggles of living in the city limits.

If you aren't from Detroit or ever lived in Detroit, it is worth seeing this movie and getting a real understanding of the uphill battles that Detroit faces from those who are living it everyday. The movie gives a history into the riots that Detroit faced in the 40's and the 60's. Just a personal sidenote, during the photography of the 1967 riots, I actually got to see where my uncle had a cleaners there in the 12th and clairmount area that was burned down doing those riots. That was a blast from the past that I had no idea I would see.

To sum this up..... watch it, learn about it. Hopefully America you will wake up to Detroit and her issues and help all of us make this a better place!!!!
