Plot Summary
Jason is not the magician he wishes he was. Bored with his life as a computer programmer, he dreams of becoming a professional magician. Stacy achieved that dream, only to be spit out by the male-dominated magic establishment, leaving her to fend for herself on the street passing the hat to tourists, and picking pockets. They both have something to prove. The Brotherhood of Magicians Competition gives them one last shot at success. But as the sparks fly between them, will Stacy pull Jason into her life of crime?

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The story has a few convolutions too many, but a generous sprinkling of tricks and illusions will appeal to fans of magic.
Fresh: Gold's conventional script is enlivened by engaging performances, authentic tricks and amusing noir-parody touches as it delves into the often unsavory institutional politics of the magic industry.
Rotten: Tthe actors are better at making coins disappear than emoting, though brassy blond Dillman is as lively as a hat full of rabbits.
Fresh: Desperate Acts of Magic is a pleasant little film.

Definitely worth seeing!
I really enjoyed this movie! Clever, funny, romance, surprises, and MAGIC! As a Magician of course the theme interested me. But, you do not have to be a Magician to enjoy this film. Recommended!
Heartwarming Story with Great Magic
Desperate Acts of Magic presents an entertaining life story of most magicians who do not reach the heights of Harry Houdini or David Copperfield but who pursue their art for the love of creating wonder and enjoyment for their audiences. Unrated, made by an independent film company over several years, and reflecting the real life travails of its screenwriter, Desperate Acts of Magic is the heartwarming story of a male magician and a female magician who each struggle with the hurdles placed in their paths to find their personal and professional place in life.
Well done tribute to magic
This was a well done tribute to magicians and the art of magic by people who obviously care. With a slew of magic movies out this year, most in the multi million dollar range, it's great to see what can be done on little more than a shoe string budget. Very inspirational to all low budget filmmakers and magicians like myself.
