Plot Summary

As Destry, a mild-mannered deputy who doesn't like guns, Stewart is called to restore order to the hopelessly corrupt frontier town of Bottleneck. Though reluctant to undertake such an enormous task, he's soon roped into action after meeting the seductive Frenchy (Dietrich), an alluring saloon girl who belts out unforgettable show-stoppers like "The Boys in the Back Room," while winning the hero's heart. Packed with unforgettable performances, snappy dialogue and rousing tunes, Destry Rides Again is a true fan favorite which set the standard for all western comedies to come.

Jimmy Stewart is DESTRY

This is a fun film for everyone. I like because I think Jimmy Stwart is great in it. The movie starts in the town of Bottleneck where the resident sheriff is killed when he starts asking too many question about rigged poker games. Thats when they hire son of the famous lawman Tom Destry . Stewart plays Tom Destry Jr. who comes to town and confuses the towns people by refusinng to strap on his guns. The town laughs at him at first but as the film progresses he wins thier respect. His new ordinance of no guns in his town is hard to enforce but James Stewart does it effortlessly and with smarts. The film takes Stewarts charm and personality and runs with it. This film also has a great cast. Marlene Dietrich plays the saloon singer Frenchy and a Brian Donlevy as Kent , the saloon owner and leader of a gang which is responsible for the murder and deceit in Bottleneck. Eventually Destry and Kent have the typical confrontation in westerns, a showdown. This movie is thoroughly entertaining. It's funny and has great characters that are hard not to like. It delivers a message about violence that still relevant today. It has all the elements of what makes a movie classic.

FYI :This film was selected for perservation by the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to be culturally, historically and or aesthetically significant in 1996.
