Plot Summary

In the 2011–12 season, the Metropolitan Opera presented its first new production of Wagner’s complete Ring cycle in more than 20 years. Directed by acclaimed theater artist Robert Lepage, this landmark staging combines state-of-the-art technology with traditional storytelling and features a artist of some the world’s greatest Wagner singers. With Die Walküre, the story of the Ring enters the world of human beings. Jonas Kaufmann and Eva-Maria Westbroek are Siegmund and Sieglinde, the twin children of Wotan, sung by Bryn Terfel. Deborah Voigt stars in the title role of the Valkyrie Brünnhilde, Wotan’s favorite daughter. James Levine conducts. Original Live in HD transmission: May 14, 2011

Customer Reviews

Die Walkure

I like the new Ring productions--very much--have seen the new productions twice.
Cast is outstanding vocally. To think the whole thing happened (!) over a dispute about real estate.

Sub-titles

Please, please put sub-titles in. I want so much to enjoy

How many ways can you say awful?

Awful production. Awful photography. Awful singing. Bryn Terfel looked fat and sounded tired. Jonas Kauffman was weak and the hag playing Brunhilde was just…awful. The orchestra was great. Everything else was…wait for it…AWFUL.
