Plot Summary

Eighteen year-old Jules, an opera buff and post office worker, makes a pirate tape of the celebrated diva Cynthia Hawkins who flatly refuses to be recorded. The next day, just before being murdered, a prostitute slips a cassette revealing a scandalous illicit business into the bag on his moped. From this point on, these priceless recordings turn Jules's life upside down, as he is hunted by the police, killers and strange Asian men. Only the enigmatic Gorodish and his muse Alba seem up to saving him from this nightmare...

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: ...frightfully chic-looking... – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: The novel touches, bizarre chases and plot twists, breathtaking camerawork by Philippe Rousselot and tension-filled editing, make Diva a superior piece of entertainment. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Made with wit and humor, this French stunner abounds in the go-for-broke spirit of a first film made by a talented, nervy director. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It's a supremely gorgeous and supremely shallow motion picture, but it believes in art with a capital A. And practically nobody does anymore. – Andrew O'Hehir, Salon.com, Jun 24, 2010

At last…!

…but when are we going to get 37,2?

a perfect movie

one of those rare great movies... Art , beauty, music, mixed of worlds, poetry, action.

Ahead of its time

I saw this film back in the 80s (released in 1981) and it really was ahead of its time. A piece of cinematic beauty. A must see for any foreign film lover.
