Plot Summary

Inspired by a curiosity about society's careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, the multi award-winning documentary DIVE! follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles' supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food -- resulting in an eye-opening documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerilla journalism and call to action.

I came, I saw, I Dove

Dive is a charming, provocative, and responsible bit of filmmaking. I've shown it to friends and to my students--all love it. It rejuvenated me and is radicalizing a new generation to think about the ethics of food waste. Though Seifert and his crew--along with those who have joined the Eat Trash campaign--ultimately want structural/corporate change to end food waste, the film is also pragmatic, pointing out a problem and suggesting a solution: there are hungry people on one block and satiated dumpsters on another; what's needed is the will to put those blocks together. The film manages not to simplify the complexities of hunger and waste while also making the viewer feel like s/he can do something proactive. Can't wait for the next film on GMOs!

Dive!

Amazingly eye-opening film. If you have the courage to have your mind opened and your perception of our country's tendency toward waste tested.... watch this documentary. You won't regret it.
