Plot Summary

SHUT UP AND SING follows the Dixie Chicks, an extremely successful all-woman Texas-based country music trio, over a three year period of intense public scrutiny, fan backlash, physical threats, and pressure from both corporate and conservative political elements in the United States after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticised then President George W. Bush during a live 2003 concert in London as part of their Top of the World Tour. This film is a fascinating and powerful look at the intersection of commerce, celebrity, and controversy.

Amazing

Absolutely brilliant. A shame, really, what happened to them. Wish they'd come back. My favorite movie ever...

Awesome

The story, the music, the Chicks. Great!

Free speech, free opinion

They absolutely had the right to say what they wanted about the government and our president. What is also true is that we don't have to like what they had to say. Their troubles were brought on by their own actions (it's not like they were forced to say they didn't like our president to foreign audiences or they were some how framed) and while I can't imagine condoning having their music banned as a result, there are consequences for being controversial. If you're a fan of their music and support them regardless or specifically because of their vocal opinion this is for you, all others may find a feature length film devoted to their plight a bit grating.
