Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Mr. Bolt has reduced the vast upheaval of the Russian Revolution to the banalities of a doomed romance.
Fresh: Literate, oldfashioned, soul-filling and thoroughly romantic.
Fresh: One of the most meticulously designed and executed films.
Fresh: Although its portentous historical drama evaporates once you return to the fresh air, watching it can be seductive.

My favorite film
An epic drama in old school style. The plot, acting, and score are all excellent. It is quite long and does not rush the pace as fast as more recent films so some viewers may get bored. For those with some patience you will experience a heart wrenching and grand film. Highly reccomended. In fact, it is my favorite film and I have watched it many times.
Doctor Zhivago
One of the greatest movies of all time with a sensually human story line and crystal clear photography for its time. It took me 54 years to realize that the Doctors mistress wore a collar. Please make this movie available for purchase and not just for rent.
Not just a movie, this is a life experience!
This is perhaps my favorite film of all time. As a child, I saw this in the theatre with my father. I would have been 9 years old at the time. For the remainder of my life, these are my images of the Russian Revolution -- the before and after. Like Russia, this film is BIG. The scale of film, the images, and the story are enthralling. More than entertainment, this film is a life experience you will carry with you. Perhaps it is the 9 year old in me talking, but I'm past 50 and I still see it that way. I have grown a new appreciation for Rod Steiger. The entire cast is great. It has all the characters, drama, scope and depth of a Russian novel. A feast for the soul.
