Plot Summary

From the producers of "The Blind Side", "Dolphin Tale" is inspired by the amazing true story of a brave dolphin and the compassionate strangers who banded together to save her life. Swimming free, a young dolphin is caught in a crab trap, severely damaging her tail. She is rescued and transported to the Clearwater Marine Hospital, where she is named Winter. But her fight for survival has just begun. Without a tail, Winter's prognosis is dire. It will take the expertise of a dedicated marine biologist (Harry Connick Jr.), the ingenuity of a brilliant prosthetics doctor (Morgan Freeman), and the unwavering devotion of a young boy (Nathan Gamble) to bring about a groundbreaking miracle-a miracle that might not only save Winter but could also help scores of people around the world. The real Winter, who plays herself in "Dolphin Tale," today serves as a symbol of courage, perseverance and hope to millions of people-both able and disabled-who have been touched by her remarkable story of recovery and rehabilitation.

A REFRESHINGLY ORIGINAL FILM THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL LOVE!

To be quite honest, I didn't think "Dolphin Tale" was gonna be as good as I thought it would be. Although the movie boasted a unique premise based on an amazing true story and an all-star cast of multi-talented actors (including Harry Connick, Jr. and Ashley Judd), I was worried that it would end up like most family dramas and become muddled with an overabundance of schmaltz and melodrama. Luckily, that wasn't the case with this film. Aside from the overall moral of the story that everyone can take to heart (no matter what age), the dialogue isn't too overly predictable, the level of sentimentality is just right, and most of the visuals are simply breathtaking. As for the acting, there isn't a flaw to be seen. Although "Dolphin Tale" featured exceptional performances from veteran actors Kris Kristofferson and Morgan Freeman, I was most impressed by the acting debuts of young newcomers Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff. Not only were their roles genuinely convincing, but they managed to bring a strong sense of determination and enthusiasm to their characters that made them especially worth rooting for. And I certainly can't forget mentioning the real star of the movie: Winter the dolphin, who (believe it or not) stars as herself. Ain't that a first! Perhaps my only complaint about this film is that it contains a few unnecessary and often silly scenes specifically created for the use of eye-popping 3D effects (one involving the escapades of a toy helicopter), but I digress. Overall, "Dolphin Tale" is a funny, charming, and good-hearted family flick about courage, hope, and perseverance that'll touch your heart and even inspire you. Rather than pander to kids like most PG-rated movies often do, it acknowledges their sense of imagination and patience and rewards them with a story that's both engaging and thought-provoking. If you ask me, this movie is definitely worthy of renting or even buying. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you might even gain a greater appreciation for the beauty of life.
