Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Kelly is unable to give the movie the kind of pacing that would make us laugh and shock us simultaneously, because he's too infatuated with an aura of hand-me-down gloom. – Elvis Mitchell, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Excitingly original indie vision. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Great but... This is a warning

Quentin Tarantino said this of the matrix/matrix trilogy, Matrix 2 and 3 ruined the mythology and moved the matrix from the posistion it was in on my top 20 list. Donnie Darko is an excellent movie, but the directors cut, doesn't RUIN the movie but kind of takes away from the mystery of the original "non-director's cut" film. Luckily they have both on itunes and i would strongly suggest multiple viewings of the regular movie and allow yourself sometime to ponder. After that i would recommend you watch the director's cut. As for the movie itself, i think it is absolutely wonderful.

EXCELLENT FILM!

If you don't give this masterpiece 5 stars, you don't deserve to live

Phenomenal

This film is absolutely mind blowing. It makes you think and bring a good look into the psychological aspects of man and society. It is a profound and insightful look into the meaning of life and various aspects towards it...all depending on the indivdual person/viewer/in the audience. You have to think your thinking and maybe watch it several times if you do not understand it. All in all I love it, and if you enjoy psychological thrillers and films that will stimulate your mind then I highly recommend this film. P.S. By the way dtm.[ you dont necessarily need intelligence to understand the film but rather insightfulness, knowledge, perception and wisdom. Which the latter aspects are a drastic difference from the former one.
