Plot Summary

Working with elements of the traditional horror genre - second sight, ESP, warnings from the dead, a mad killer - and cinematography of disquieting beauty and dreamlike sense of dislocation, director Roeg weaves a fabric of anxiety that questions all reality. The evocative use of the back streets of Venice is a sinister participant in the action based on the novel by Daphne du Maurier. This intensely erotic and macabre film boasts outstanding performances by Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland.

Horrible

I read all the reviews and got sucked into believing this had potential. I have no idea how legit movie critics could rate this move so high - it is bad and a complete waste of money. The story is painstakingly slow, the plot is highly suspect, and the acting is poor at best.

Overrated film with spotty acting and a tired story...

I really have no earthly idea how this film got anything close to a good review. There is nothing scary or good about it, and it's nearly downright ridiculous. Sutherland is great, but overacts so much that it's hard not to cringe, and the story just spins its wheels the whole way through to the (non) climax. If this is what GREAT "classic" horror is, then count me out.

Horror for Adults

A chilling look at that point where the psychological and the supernatural intersect, "Don't Look Now" boasts two major stars, a gripping story and a sinister, hallucinatory mise en scene. An intelligent, occult thriller for adults, based on a story by Daphne Du Maurier.
