Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Doomsday is frenetic, loud, wildly imprecise and so derivative that it doesn't so much seem to reference its antecedents as try on their famous images like a child playing dress-up. Homage without innovation isn't homage, it's karaoke.
Rotten: [Director] Marshall cribs whole sections from other movies (Aliens and The Road Warrior, most blatantly) so baldly that you have to wonder how he'd like it if someone ripped off The Descent this egregiously.
Fresh: Those with a taste for revved-up, splattery fantasy thrills won't be complaining.
Fresh: Marshall reveals himself to be a terrific showman of chaos and comic savagery. This is Baz Luhrmann's Mad Max.

Awful film
I was excited for "Doomsday" because director Neil Marshall's previous films ("Dog Soldiers," "The Descent") were great and star Rhona Mitra is gorgeous and talented. I was expecting a fast-paced, scary, and stylish action-science fiction-suspense hybrid. What I received, however, was a slapdash letdown with ZERO originality. George Miller's "Mad Max" films are stolen from the most, but "Apocalypse Now," "Braveheart," "Dawn of the Dead," and Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" shouldn't feel left out -- visual and plot elements are lifted without remorse from those five superior films and pasted together without a hint of finesse here. Worse still, it's simply very, very boring. It's obvious many scenes are desperate to be called disturbing, but the grotesquery is empty. There's no creativity or sense of fun in the action or gore -- it's a group of bored pros going through the motions, hoping undiscerning genre fans won't notice zero effort was put in. This genre fan did and was left deeply disappointed. The only positive element is how sexy Rhona Mitra is (and decent performances from reliable, slumming talents such as Malcolm McDowell and Bob Hoskins). Otherwise, a lame movie through and through.
BAD BAD BAD
The movie started off well but somewhere in the middle it turned from a dark, freaky movie to a monty python and the holy grail, the fast and the furious kind of combnation which really sucked. The one good thing was that it gave me an hour of well needed sleep in the theatres. DO not buy....big waste of money.
Doomsday > Life.
I don't really know how else to describe this movie. It's basically amazing. The action is intense and there are some pretty creepy scenes. I'd actually use the word epic to describe this movie. Buy it, rent it, love it. (:
