Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: While Wilde's wit remains firmly entrenched, there's also a gruesome vein of gothic horror, and elements of the original which existed in the subtext or were merely hinted at are brought graphically into the open. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Nov 1, 2011

Rotten: Like the painting, B-grade horror movie fast loses appeal. – Don Groves, sbs.com.au, Dec 31, 2010

Rotten: This uneasy mixture of horror and elegant wit, which worked so well originally, never really catches fire thanks to Parker's undistinguished handling. – David Stratton, At the Movies (Australia), Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Colin Firth is perfect as the devil's advocate, as this adaptation of 19th century gothic taps into the modern zeitgeist. – Colin Fraser, FILMINK (Australia), Jun 24, 2010

GRET MOVIE!!!

I thought this was going to be the average, boring retelling of an amazing story, but I was abruptly disproved. Ben Barnes and Colin Firth were awesome in this movie. Ben Barnes was a perfect portrayal of Dorian's darkness and innocence. Colin Firth was also an absolutely believable antagonist. This movie deserves 5 stars!!!! Although the directors altered the ending to the plot, it still made sense and made me feel pity for Dorian. I think everyone who loved the book should definitely watch this movie =)

An Excellent Thriller

Based on the book The Portrait of Dorian Gray, the films stars Ben Barnes, Colin Firth, and Ben Chaplin. Dorian arrives in London, innocent and eager to experience life. He has his portrait painted by a talented artist and is lead into a life of corruption by another friend. When asked if he'd do anything, even sell his soul, to remain young and beautiful forever he answers honestly and says "yes". After that everything begins to change and only the portrait holds the truth about him. The ending is very creepy and very satisfying. The cast is excellent.

I loved it

I thought it was very dark as it was meant to be!
