Plot Summary

Bela Lugosi stars as Dracula in the 1931 original screen version of Bram Stoker’s classic tale. Towering ominously among the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains, Castle Dracula strikes fear in the hearts of the Transylvanian villagers below. After a naive real estate agent succumbs to the will of Count Dracula, the two head to London where the vampire hopes to stroll among respectable society by day and search for potential victims by night. Directed by horror specialist Tod Browning, the film creates an eerie, chilling mood that has been rarely realized since and remains a masterpiece not only of the genre, but of all time.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: With Mr. Browning's imaginative direction and Mr. Lugosi's makeup and weird gestures, this picture succeeds to some extent in its grand guignol intentions. – Mordaunt Hall, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: An exciting melodrama, not as good as it ought to be but a cut above the ordinary trapdoor-and-winding-sheet type of mystery film. – TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A sublimated ghost story related with all surface seriousness and above all with a remarkably effective background of creepy atmosphere. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Certainly it is Lugosi's performance, and the cinematography of Karl Freund, that make Tod Browning's film such an influential Hollywood picture. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jan 20, 2006

"Ahh, the children of the night......what music they make."- Dracula

Cool! You managed to go for the classic Universal monster movies. Awesome! Maybe you can put Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man on this. Just keep up the good work, Apple. :)

Ignore the negative reviews of this one...

After seeing some of the negative reviews on this movie and then checking out what those users like, I'd say they have NO TASTE in anything. I mean really. User "axelrox" loves "imaginary friends" shows and "Jenny mccurdy" music but says this is the "worst movie ever". I think they got it very wrong and should have said they has the worst taste ever. lol...
THIS MOVIE IS A GEM! It's old school vampire horror like it should be. People who hate it have no taste in good horror. Personally, I've seen thousands of horror movies in every genre and this one still holds up to the test of time. SEE IT! Judge for yourself...

Classic

It's a classic that set the standard for Dracula that we still hold today. Definitely a must-see!
