Fresh: The dichotomies director Sam Raimi presents within that familiar genre are what make this such a kick.
Fresh: Playful and relentlessly scary.
Fresh: O, joy, a horror flick that's smart and funny, as well as cringeworthy for all the right reasons. And up to speed on the mortgage crisis too.
Fresh: Drag Me to Hell is a sometimes funny and often startling horror movie. That is what it wants to be, and that is what it is.

Encore!
I'm not one to ever exaggerate my enthusiasm I have for a film, but this movie was fun as hell. I watch a lot of movies and if you click my name and read my reviews then you'll see that i'm hard to impress...but there's no denying that this movie was just a thrill to sit through. What an experience.. Never had I seen a whole theater of people reacting as a whole to every shot of the movie. The whole theater laughed together and screamed together and jumped together and got grossed out together, and loved it. This really has to be one of the better movies I've seen this year...not because it's good film making or anything, but because it was just an experience at the theater that i'll never forget. It was definitely worth watching more than once and it's not a bore at all to sit through. It is in the style of old B horror movies, so the thrills are cheap and the music is cheesy and the whole movie feels like something that came out decades ago, but it still has found a way to preserve a modern thrill that horror movies nowadays seem to have lost. It's not meant to be scary, it's meant to be a mix of humor and thrills, letting you to scare yourself with whatever you think might happen. It's not a scary movie, but it does make you jump. Highly recommended if you're a fan of having a good time watching a movie. Watch with more than one person, and with good sound system for full effect. If you're going to watch this on a tiny computer screen with laptop speakers then plug in some external speakers and have a go at it. Also, it's debatable, and I love to help out parents....so this is a pre-teen friendly movie as well. But I'm sure any kid under the age of 10 will get scared. There's really nothing bad in it though as far as launguage, nudity, blood, or anything goes. Enjoy.
Exceptional.
Probably the 'best' American horror movie of the last 5-10 years...maybe longer. There have been some strong candidates--Verbinski's rehashing of THE RING was beautifully realized, if not superior to the original. But therein lies the problem: America's current habit with re-making or re-inventing horror films that were virtually flawless in their own rites. TEXAS CHAINSAW updates? All signs point to a greedy Michael Bay as producer, no talent in front of or behind the camera; I like Rob Zombie--he is audacious, whether or not a totally profficient director--but redux-ing HALLOWEEN? More than once?? Boo. The upcoming NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST revamps? It all smacks of dried-out writers/directors and studios/producers too nervous or incompetent or disrespectful to harvest NEW ideas, fresh ideas. (SAW 6 sounds more like the punchline to a joke about bad movies than the next installment in the series--though I could be persuaded that the original was among the most successful, inventive American horrors of the last 5 years.) So, before FINAL DESTINATION is re-made into a 3D sellout--oh wait, nevermind; already did that!--I'd just like to celebrate the return of Mr Raimi to what he does beat--no punches-pulled gross-out B-horror, just as fun and funny and ridiculous as it is chilling. Delivering what was also one of the more shocking and chilling finales in recent memory, he makes this neverending pool of sequelremake-itis look even worse without even breaking a sweat. This could easily end up being one of the 10-best of the year...to my delighted surprise.
