Plot Summary

When she was a child, Cheng Lai-sheung (Josie Ho) could see Hong Kong’s famed Victoria Harbour from her apartment. But as time passed, the old buildings in front of her home were demolished to make way for a huge residential project that now blocks her view. Increasingly disappointed and upset, she vowed to one day save up enough money for her family to move into a new apartment with a magnificent sea view. In order to get what she wants, she must take matters into her own hands...even if it means getting her hands seriously bloody.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A messy, bloated horror film with bonus ham-fisted social commentary. – Simon Renshaw, Film4, Nov 19, 2010

Fresh: For all the film's bleak ironies, Lai-sheung's brutal asphyxiation of a pregnant woman, who aborts her child while dying, destroys any residual empathy. – Nigel Floyd, Time Out, Nov 17, 2010

Fresh: A gleefully gory slasher-horror that satirises the property bubble and piles up the bodies in the process. Not for the faint of heart. – Kim Newman, Empire Magazine, Nov 15, 2010

Fresh: Directing with real panache and great visual flair, and deftly handling his time-shifting plotline, Pang brings our sympathies and revulsion into confounding collision. – Anton Bitel, Little White Lies, Nov 26, 2010

Customer Reviews

Wow, I did not expect that…in an awesome way

I went in thinking it was just a movie about a woman who wanted her "dream home". It was the means by which she was going to obtain this home that really made this film difficult to watch (but no less awesome). The lady would do anything to live in the apartment she has always wanted to live in, and the way she disposes of person after person to do so is not only insane, it makes some of the scenes difficult to stomach. You kind of feel sorry for the woman, especially after all she has been through, and anyone that will go through all of that craziness for a home deserves at least to be recognized for her efforts. A really surprising movie, amazingly crafted in almost every regard. Do not miss it!

Fantastic

Aside from being an effective slasher movie, the film is a fantastic example of the fear of lifelong poverty. Highly recommended.
