Plot Summary

The Kelly brothers spend their youth searching for the perfect wave in Australia. Out of necessity the family launches a backyard surf business - re-thinking board design, crafting homemade wetsuits and selling merchandise out of their van. Battling big waves, small town conservatism and criminals, the brothers give rise to a global brand. A story of passion, corruption, friendship and loyalty, deadly addictions and fractured relationships, DRIFT tells a tale of courage and the will to survive at all odds.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This poor-surfers-make-good drama from Morgan O'Neill and Ben Nott relies more than it should on toned thighs and taut gluteals. Be grateful; there's nothing to see on dry land that's anywhere near as compelling. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Aug 2, 2013

Rotten: Manages to get a fair bit right about early 1970s surf culture when it isn't trafficking in the hoariest of David-vs.-Goliath cliches. – Scott Foundas, Variety, Jul 31, 2013

Rotten: The leads are engaging, and Pollard in particular projects an easygoing, friendly machismo. Where the movie routinely disappoints, though, is in pursuit of a perfect storm of conflict story lines ... – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Aug 1, 2013

Rotten: Not so much drifting as veering between storylines, Ben Nott and Morgan O'Neill's Drift often feels like a film with narrative ADD. – Zachary Wigon, Village Voice, Jul 30, 2013
