Very Good Shoot Em Up Western

Good opening scene (gunfight) as all good westerns start. Actors Poitier, Garner, Weaver and Bill Travers are great in this flick. Very balanced commentary on the necessities/ills of 19th century expansion westward by focusing on individual hardship/hardluck stories. Multiple tight plotlines keep your interst throughout and ultimitely converge with satisfying resolutions in the suspenseful grand finale. I really like the musical score...hauntingly uplifting. Reminds me of a Morricone theme. Also, the stunts involving horses in this movie are some of the best I have ever seen! It's definitely worth 10 bucks. You'll watch it many times.

Great Film; Fabulous Soundtrack By Neal Hefti

This is a grim film; the tension builds all the way to the end.

However, the soundtrack is what hooks me every time I watch this movie. It was a rare Neal Hefti soundtrack and it's just a work of genius.

Why don't they release this entire soundtrack on CD? They already released it on vinyl.

one of the finest westerns ever filmed

The Score is very haunting and lends well to the action. It is filled with subplots. Garner wants to find the killer of his wife. Sidney just wants to get paid. Travers wants to become a general. Bibi wants her child, and the indians want to kill them all. Be sure to have a cool drink of water handy while watching this movie.
