Plot Summary

Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion, Fly Away Home) directs the exciting story of 12-year-old Xan (Alexander Michaletos), who decides to return the cheetah he raised from a cub to the wild instead of allowing pursuers to place it in captivity. Harsh South African landscapes, stalking lions, crocodiles, river rapids and a mysterious drifter (Eamonn Walker) who may intend to turn the big cat in for cash - all will test Xan's courage and resolve. Join him in this tale of growing up and letting go. It's a journey you won't want to miss.

Fresh: This soulful, piercingly beautiful story about a boy and his cheetah marks the welcome return to the screen of the director Carroll Ballard. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Carroll Ballard still works in his ravishing, nearly pointillistic style of organic visual splendor. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 7, 2011

Fresh: Unlike many lesser movies aimed at families, this has heart, humor, thrilling adventure and stunning visuals. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Simultaneously innocent and sophisticated, this honestly emotional fable shows why every Ballard film -- and his last was released almost a decade ago -- is a special event. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Last 3 min cut off

Great movie! But the iTunes rental freezes at the end so we couldn't view the last 3-5 min.

Amazing

We rented this from the library not expecting too much from it, but found it to be quite an amazing movie. If you want a story that has a good message, if you like the aspect of a relationship between a cheetah and a boy, and if you enjoy a movie with an upredictable ending then this is a movie for you. We fell in love with it and now we own it.
