Plot Summary
The sophomore effort from writer and director Greg Pritikin, who previously co-directed and acted in 1998's Totally Confused, Dummy stars Oscar winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist, Summer of Sam) as Steven, a recently unemployed ne'er-do-well who has difficulty expressing himself. Steven's best friend is Fanny, an aspiring singer played by Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil) who, along with Steven, is just looking for her niche. Eventually Fanny takes a shine to Yiddish music and Steven finds he has a knack for ventriloquism. Through his newfound talent, Steven discovers that he is able to overcome his social problems through his dummy and decides to try impressing and winning the heart of Lorena, played by Vera Farmiga (Autumn in New York, 15 Minutes). The winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Santa Barbara Film Festival, Dummy also stars Illeana Douglas and Jared Harris.

Fresh: A mildly engaging addition to that curious sub-genre of American independent filmmaking, the whimsical comedy of Long Island alienation.
Rotten: Pritikin ... serves up the sort of shrill 'satire' of middle-class Jewish vulgarity in which the mere mention of words like 'brisket' and 'klezmer' is automatically presumed to be hilarious.
Fresh: A romantic comedy of considerable charm and humor.
Fresh: It's no surprise that Brody, Douglas, Walter and Leibman make for one highly entertaining, if messed up, family unit, but the big revelation here is Jovovich.

One of the best movies because of the strong acting from milla jovovich,and the twisted plotline of the movie.I's a must buy! MILLA JOVOVICH IS THE BEST ACTRESS AND THEY HAD BEST PUT RESIDENT EVIL AND ULTRAVIOLET BECAUSE OF IT.THANK YOU iTUNES FOR PUTTING SUCH A GREAT MOVIE ON!
Great Movie.
It's been a while since I've seen this, but just watching the trailer makes me want to buy it and watch it again! This movie is funny and cute, dark and light-hearted at the same time. The cast is great too. It's refreshing to see the usually sexy Milla as the raunchy tomboy. I'm not sure what the negative review was about. (Maybe this movie is too much for a 12 year old to handle.)
Great Movie.
Just before last night, I have never seen this movie, but I bought it because it looked interesting. Oh, and trust me, it really was. It was a very cute and funny movie and I certainly think it is worth the hour and a half to watch. It's also worth the $9.99. If you're looking for a laugh, this might give you a few.
