Plot Summary

A 5-star hotel turns into a 3-ring circus when an orangutan named Dunston checks in! Jason Alexander, Faye Dunaway, and Eric Lloyd star in this hilarious romp about an orangutan who gets loose in the elegant Majestic Hotel on the eve of the social event of the season. Dodging his jewel-thieving owner and the frantic hotel manager, Dunston is befriended by the manager's ten-year old son, Kyle, who is determined to help his new friend escape. Filled with laughter and comic high-jinks, Dunston Checks In is hilarious monkey-business!

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: There isn't much of a story. The minimal plot exists exclusively to get the orangutan Dunston (played by "Sam") into as many odd, potentially-comic circumstances as possible. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Aug 3, 2009

Rotten: An unruly orangutan plus an opulent hotel setting equals a natural disaster, or in this case a kids' movie. – Derek Adams, Time Out, Aug 3, 2009

i LOVE this movie

its funny, ive been watching it since i was like 7. (i still have it on video cassette)

I love this movie

I've only seen this movie once, but i love it. It's one of my favorite movies.

Cerebral….yet Sublime.

I mostly go in for independent films…..preferably in black and white and subtitled in Slovak…..but…..something told me to take a chance on this one. Kwapis (AKA K-Dog) really delivers. There is everything…..sex, money…intrigue…..partial Jason Alexander nudity. For those of you that don't know…..the series "Seinfeld" is a shameless rip off of "Dunston Checks In"….even though it first aired six years after the beginning of Seinfeld…..it is THAT powerful.
You owe it to yourself to see this movie. I would suggest as a wine pairing maybe a haughty Willamette Valley Pinot Noir and maybe some Nacho flavored Cheez Its. The movie is best enjoyed in a turtle neck and high waisted Levi's,
A cinematic gem that now belongs to the ages.
