Rotten: I started out loving Duplicity; by the end, I wanted to strangle it.
Fresh: Duplicity is an enormously enjoyable hybrid, a romantic comedy set at the center of a caper movie.

Hm. no.
They basically took a movie and kept the same plot as well as the characters, but re-arranged the scenes and supportive characters repeatedly so that it didn't exactly make sense, but we accepted it as clever because in the end we are told by the characters that it is clever. The story repeated itself multiple times, and the characters were very shallow, not to mention there is no telling what part is 'pretend' and what part is 'reality', and then they are thrown together in the end and everything's just great. Not to mention the entire plot is presented in a non linear manner in order to confuse the viewer even further and get away with plot holes. So ultimately the movie is entertaining, distracts one from asking proper questions, and makes one simply watch on and believe what he or she is told. Idiotic, and a waste of time.
Wow I thought it was great!
I truly don't understand all the negative reviews for this one. I suppose because msat people want to turn their brains off and have their hands held through movies these days. This one took plenty of attention to get through and some concentration to piece the plot together at first. But I thought the story was unique and the characters had plenty of chemistry. Not to mention some clever and unique filmmaking. And I'd call this one of the best performances from both the leads! Tony Gilroy is certainly an extremely talented writer/director proving here that "Michael Clayton" was no fluke.
Seriously my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I would never have expected this many negative reviews! I actually recommended this to several of my co-workers, but judging from popular opinion here I guess I'll have to look forward to some complaints. Oh well...ha, I'd actually be happy to watch this one again!
I couldn't stand this movie...
At the beginning it was incredibly confusing, but once you got used to how it swings back and forth between past and present building up for the day it happens, it just does not make since. I'm not the kind of person who falls asleep often in movies, but this movie had no excitement....I can't see how it is called a thriller. I would not recommend it.
