Fresh: Not only one of Kazan's richest films and Dean's first significant role, it is also arguably the actor's best performance.
Fresh: John Steinbeck's painful biblical allegory -- Genesis replayed in Monterey, California, circa 1917 -- is more palatable on the screen, thanks to the down-to-earth performances of James Dean as Cal/Cain and Richard Davalos as Aron/Abel.
Fresh: It's a film of great performances, atmospheric photography, and a sure sense of period and place.
Fresh: A classic of its time.

so revolutionary....
in every sense of the movie: the acting, writing, directing, and more. although a lot of the context had to be changed for those darn old production codes, it still is an amazing story and beautiful movie that just makes you want it to never end. i've always thought james dean was a teensy bit overrated (dont hurt me!) but this movie is very good, nonetheless. get it!!!
Amazing movie. Must have.
One of the most poinent and skillfully acted movies ever made. The plot line, supreme cinematography, and genius of Dean all combine to make one of the least known yet, monumental classic movies of all time.
East of Eden
Wow. This movie is incredible. I read the book last summer, and it has just become my favorite book of aall time. James Deans' acting is astounding. His level of emotion was so uncommon back in the 50's. My only regret is that the movie isn't longer. It really only covers the last portion of the book. But it is a must-buy anyway.
