Plot Summary
In search of a simpler life, a young couple returns home to Alabama where they set out to eat the way their grandparents did – locally and seasonally. But as they navigate the agro-industrial gastronomical complex, they soon realize that nearly everything about the food system has changed since farmers once populated their family histories. A very good documentary!
I held a screening of "Eating Alabama" to smaller but packed auditorium, and so I know it's not just me saying, "This film is really good!" In a room with a diverse audience, everyone seemed to get both the seriousness of the subject and the shifts in tone when Grace switches into a little humor to lighten the mood. For anybody who eats -- that's everyone -- whether you live in Alabama or not, this issue of food and where it comes from affects you.
Thoughtful, educational and funny
Andrew Grace is a quality storyteller with a heart for and history with family farming in Alabama. In this documentary, he reconnects with this legacy and a personal journey becomes a bigger, momentous statement about the food we eat and why its origins matter. The implications of this film apply far beyond one state's borders. Great work!

Great documentary! This will be our second year of gardening in our yard. I hope this documentary will inspire many more to grow their own food and educate others as well as seeing the importance buying seasonal and local.
