Plot Summary

"Edge of Darkness" is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, 24-year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter's secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking-glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder--and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone), who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven's solitary search for answers about his daughter's death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: I liked the pace and the pulse of the film, but it launches no genuine surprise and, despite being irradiated with scenes of sickness and morbid one-liners, has little afterglow. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Gibson, of course, snaps and snarls and blows out some brains with a joylessness that is thoroughly enjoyable. It's like he never left. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Nov 30, 2011

Rotten: Monahan mistakes rambling exposition for captivating back-and-forth and Campbell doesn't help any by making the film as drab and turgidly paced as possible. – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Apr 4, 2011

Rotten: For the third act it loses all credibility and suspense by derailing into a messy and pulpy mash-up of Dr. No and Death Wish. – Thomas Caldwell, Cinema Autopsy, Jul 7, 2010

Saw it in theaters; gonna buy it too!

I went and saw this movie in the theater a week after it was released. It will keep you on the edge of your seat and put you in Craven's(Gibson's) shoes. He has a "nothing-to-lose" mentality in this one. I think this is one of Mel's best and I will be adding it to my collection. I would very much recommend to anyone who wants a thrilling, action packed, storyline. buy it!

...more like this from Warner Bros. please!

Mel Gibson delivers a hard hitting, edge of your seat thriller that doesn't disappoint. You are quickly lured in with good story telling and then snared by a movie screen that is unabashed at showing you ever bit of drama - violent or sweet. Definitely a purchase for my movie library, I hope it will be available in HD.

mel gibson is awesome.

great movie, im glad to see hes still making movies despite the forces of hollywood trying to keep him down. How is this anything like Taken? Because both characters had daughters? See both movies first, then make your opinion. Taken is an ex spook that is searching for his daughter throughout europe. This movie is completely different. I've seen both, i like em both.
