Plot Summary
Welcome to Antarctica - like you've never experienced it. You've seen the extraordinary marine life, the retreating glaciers and, of course, the penguins, but leave it to award-winning, iconoclastic filmmaker Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Rescue Dawn) to be the first to explore the South Pole's most fascinating inhabitants...humans. In this one-of-kind documentary, Herzog turns his camera on a group of remarkable individuals, "professional dreamers" who work, play and struggle to survive in a harsh landscape of mesmerizing, otherworldly beauty - perhaps the last frontier on earth.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Herzog is one of a kind. His new doc is an event you watch in awe as you marvel at its wonders.
Fresh: [Herzog is] a filmmaker ideally suited to recognize and celebrate...deep irony.
Fresh: The footage is breathtaking. We also are privileged to watch seals feeding their young, but the revelations about penguin 'prostitutes' are perhaps the film's most extraordinary. Gay penguins? Insane penguins?
Fresh: Nature at its most mysterious, brutal and implacable - just as Herzog likes it.

Unimpressive To Say The Least
No real plot and the wildlife shots were very unspectacular. Even the human stories were interrupted by Herzog which made me want to turn it off and watch commercials, but since I don't have cable, satellite or television I continued watching. I'm still left wondering if the volcanist's generator ever started. Why no footage of the leopard seal? Why so negative Werner? Are you that upset that Ebert is dead? Rent it if you must, but don't buy this drabby film.
a good arctic movie
shows not only the antarctica but a true human experience and shows mankind in a pure state not only by it location but its action of simply living. a good movie, if you like planet earth series you will like this.
Fresh perspective
The perspective of this film is a breath of fresh air. The people in the interviews are full of surprises and it makes you wonder how so many of the realest people have ended up in Antarctica. The landscapes are majestic and the view of animals was fascinating. I recommend this film to anyone with an open mind and curiosity.
