Plot Summary
One of the most harrowing and compelling personal documentaries of our time, ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE exposes for the first time the truth about the Killing Fields and the Khmer Rouge who were behind Cambodia's genocide. More than simply an inquiry into Cambodia's experience, however, the film is a profound meditation on the nature of good and evil, shedding light on the capacity of some people to do terrible things and of others to forgive them.

Fresh: Extraordinary on several fronts.
Fresh: How the genial Sambath remains so circumspect throughout his taut sessions with Chea is remarkable, as is so much of this must-see expose.
Fresh: An extraordinary historical testimonial.
Fresh: A fascinating documentary that illustrates Georges Bernanos's famous dictum: "La colere des imbeciles remplit le monde."

Finally the truth
I've watched every documentary out there that left me wondering about the absolute truth about the Khmer Rouge. This one is it! All the answers shown forth the genocide of my people.
Accurate first hand sources
By far, the best real investigative and documented piece I've seen (even better than most of the books I've read about the Genocide as well) because clearly, Mr. Sambath understands the culture and language-- thereby connecting with his sources and showing viewers the real story from a non-foreign perspective. Moreover, it's amazing that he did not allow his personal feelings or any sense of vendetta to interfere/detriment the documentary process. Indeed, this documentary shows how history should be told: from first hand sources (1) who made the executive decisions; (2) followers who implemented the decisions; and (3) the repercussions of the decisions to the mass.
What remains a question of interest is found in 43:13 in which Noun Chea mentioned the meetings with Chinese officials. How much involvement did China have influencing the Khmer Rouge's decisions to kill because both China and the Khmer Rouge had a common enemy: Vietnam? Many Khmer people believe that the killings occurred due to pressure from China and making wave for Chinese settlers/colonists. Or perhaps the blame should be place on the colonization by the French which resulted in the lost of Khmer/Cambodia's southern part of land to Vietnam causing further division in that area of SE Asia and leading to further conflicts/wars. To be continue...
