Erasing David
A 'chase' movie that's also informative and relevant to today's world -- and, quite often, funny! The premise of going undercover to be hunted down using only publicly available information really illuminates how much of our data is out there. This is extremely topical stuff and it's told in an accessible, engaging way, using one man's personal journey to convey a society-wide problem. I disagree with other reviews that suggest Director David Bond is a techie - this is the story of an average guy who discovers through no fault of his own that his daughter's private information is at risk and sets about researching this issue just as anyone who cares would. The climax of this film is a huge, gripping surprise and speaks volumes about the privacy debate. If you have little or no interest in the ramifications of sharing your public information, this smart thriller will definitely change your mind!
David erased my time
I'll give this movie 2 stars because it was a little funny. It does show us how easy it is for others to acquire bits of information about us, especially if we are not careful about what we leave behind. But over all this movie was a big disappointment. I think most everyone can agree, that if they wanted to disappear; they would not use their cell phone, check emails, check out websites referred to us in our emails from the people hunting us, throw out our plans for hiding, our credit card info and other important data into the rubbish bin, go to visit family, friends or regular haunts, and go to scheduled appointments with their spouse! Seriously, if he thought what he was doing was disappearing then he really should have done more research before he set out on this journey of his. 2 thumbs way down.
This is real!
I loved this film and and really recommend it. How much of your identity is "out there"?? It's a documentary that plays just like a chase thriller and really hooks you in with a riveting game of cat and mouse. The director's totally reasonable drive for anonymity quickly descends into a sickening paranoia which opens your eyes to how much of all of our information is public, and the frightening future implications of that. I will never look at filling out a form or browsing the web the same way. The amazing score by Michael Nyman with great cuts between the hunters and the hunted both drive the story to a chilling conclusion.
