Plot Summary
Based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, "Everything is Illuminated" tells the story of a young man's quest to find the woman who saved his grandfather in a small Ukrainian town that was wiped off the map by the Nazi invasion. What starts out as a journey to piece together one family's story under absurd circumstances turns into a meaningful journey with a powerful series of revelations -- the importance of remembrance, the perilous nature of secrets, the legacy of the Holocaust, and the meaning of friendship.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's profound in the way that life is profound in hindsight, its view of the past both fixed in history and mutable in the telling. And it's exquisitely tender.
Rotten: If Jonathan were a character instead of a symbol of American Immigrants Disconnected From Their History, Schreiber's movie might have worked.
Fresh: It's funny and warm, with the sting of the horrific event that triggered the trip giving it a melancholy feel.
Fresh: Yes, we laugh; yes, we cry; the sun rises and sets. It's all quite enlightening.

One of my all time favorites
I saw this movie for the first time a year ago, and immediately fell in love. The characters are relatable and great, the dialogue is funny and sharp, and the film has a really moving story and message. It isn't really anything like the book for those who've read it, but definitely still gets five stars from me! Certainly worth all $10 of your money.
Great Movie - Great Story - Great Dialog - Not So Good Title
The title of this movie put me off at first, but after reading the other positive reviews I rented this movie. Fantastic first rate story telling.
