Plot Summary

A student studying the mysterious stranglehold of urban myths decides to investigate a dreaded Louisiana plantation that was the site of grizzly murders of a couple by their son 20 years earlier. He trespasses with four others onto the abandoned backwoods property in an effort to prove his thesis that there is no truth to the myths surrounding it. Panic, violence and terror erupt as the group delves deeper into the property’s bizarre history and their own fears.

Ignore the Title

The fact that they changed the name from "Trespass" to "Evil Remains" very much sabotaged the hopes of success for this seldom seen pseudo-slasher, but if you remind yourself of its true title then you'll know you're in something more than you'd expect. Four friends researching local urban legends take a trip to a run down Louisiana plantation, where the property's bloody past takes it toll on the quartet in horrifying ways. Without spoiling the film's eerie twists, "Trespass" is a patient yet at times shockingly brutal story of how the sins of the past can corrupt the present. The film's slight cast, with the principles consisting of only four twenty-somethings, works wonders with the material, especially the vastly underrated Estella Warren. Yes she's been a part of some bombs in the past but as Kristy, the film's defacto heroine, Warren shows strength, paranoia and vulnerability in equal measure. If you like your backwoods southern horror served with generous helpings of abrupt violence and paranormal phenomena, then give "Trespass" a chance. You won't be disappointed.
