Plot Summary

A stint in prison usually has one of two effects on a man – it either breaks him down or makes him stronger. For Driver (Dwayne Johnson), a 10-year sentence proved the latter. His strength was not just fueled by time, but also by a hunger to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his own imprisonment. Untouchable on the ‘inside,’ he made plenty of enemies in prison - men who were counting the days until his release so they could exact their own revenge on the outside. Now, on the day of his release, he is hell-bent on reaping vengeance upon the four men responsible for his brother’s murder. With a list of names and addresses in hand, he sprints out of the prison gates and is immediately on his mission.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Structurally "Faster" is as blocky as its star. Fancy camera angles and changes in hue cannot camouflage its stumbling, blunt-force narrative style, in which plot turns are dropped like bricks. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Nov 24, 2010

Rotten: By the end of this underwritten wanna-B movie, only the black-and-white muscle car is left standing with its dignity intact. – Dan Kois, Washington Post, Nov 24, 2010

Fresh: So what if Faster doesn't quite hang together as a movie? It is still worth hanging out with if you're that particular type of action fan with a hankering for home-brand hard-assedness. – Leigh Paatsch, Herald Sun (Australia), Feb 3, 2011

Fresh: Faster slides between tones like a blues guitarist between frets -- mingling Biblical allegory with blatant parody, yet never letting one cancel the other out. – Jake Wilson, The Age (Australia), Feb 2, 2011

Mr. Johnson is stepping up!

This movie is different than Mr. Johnson's typical action flicks. I usually enjoy his stuff - like the rundown and walking tall (even though it is a remake). He is definitely taking his acting career more serious - its good to see him moving away from cheesy kids movies.
This movie follows are grittier path than his normal flicks do. This movie is darker and in your face. Sure, the action is not as explosive as in his other movies - but it is brutal. It doesn't attempt to showcase the "Rocks" typical wrestling moves.
Faster is not simply an action movie, and even though the plot was fairly simple, there was more depth to it than I expected. Even though he didn't have the most lines in the movie - his acting was really good.
This is a tough guy movie - a man going around shooting and killing people in the open for many to bear witness to, this guy is on a mission and there is no distraction - it definitely makes sense why he is faster.

Check this movie out. If you are skeptical based on your opinions of Johnson's earlier works... don't let them keep you from this one - after watching this movie... you opinion might start to shift into a better light.

VERY GOOD MOVIE.

worthy performance by The Rock

I saw this at the movies and really enjoyed it. People may say the Rock didn't talk, the Rock just rode around angrily shooting people. That's true but this movie isn't really a character dialogue driven movie. I don't remember the name of this style, but the movie is left up to your own interpretation through the characters action in pass and present, almost like putting together a puzzle. I thought it was good because this movie showed the Rocks growth as an actor to take on such a dark character, and the movie made sense to me. The movie touched up on the reality of revenge and gave each character an interesting story and depth through narration. Good movie

Ding. Dwayne Johnson has leveled.

I remember seeing the trailer to The Scorpion King and thinking "Man another wrestler gonna try to be an actor". Well he did more than try. Watching him do pretty much everything there is to do in movies, from shoot em ups to some cool comedy and far out movies. He has even done plenty of serious movies but this one was way deeper than any other. Plus there is a lot going on in this movie and they spread it out nicely and still throw some curve balls at you. It's not the best movie or even like a blockbuster but in a way, it is in it's own class and worth watching. Can't please everyone but I was defiantly impressed. What an awesome actor we have in Dwayne Johnson. Over all this was a well made movie in all areas. Don't get me wrong the other acting and everything else was great to, but that dude just keeps on surprising me with his skills.
