Fatal Instinct (1993)

Plot Summary

Director Carl Reiner has a comic go at the recent spree of erotic crime thrillers... Cop Armand Assante is assigned to investigate a "kinky" murder. He is also, improbably, the prosecuting attorney. The resident femme fatale in the case is Sean Young. Meanwhile, Assante's wife (Kate Nelligan) is plotting her husband's demise in a Body Heat mode. Tony Randall appears as an (amusing) judge. The effective (if not quite serious) jazz score is performed by Clarence Clemons, who appears onscreen during crucial plot moments to toot his sax. Look for "homages" to Pretty Woman, Cape Fear, Double Indemnity and others, including, of course, Fatal Attraction.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A collection of gags that vary much too wildly in terms of timing and wit. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Sep 30, 2008

Rotten: Small jokes are buried under elaborate setups. Sight gags are repeated to the point of exhaustion. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Sep 30, 2008

Rotten: The filmmakers have provided critics ample artillery by prominently featuring a skunk in this thuddingly flat spoof of erotic thrillers. – Brian Lowry, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Lacking in both inspiration and ingenuity, it doesn't so much spoof the conventions of the genre as dumb down famous -- and in some cases, forgotten -- scenes from a slew of other movies. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Sep 30, 2008

This movie was hilarious!!!!

I really enjoyed this movie. It had a lot of wisecracks and its obviously a parody on Basic Instinct and Fatal Attraction. Guaranteed to have a good amount of laughs.
