Plot Summary
In the early 20th century, while studying world mythology, Joseph Campbell discovered a pattern hidden in every story ever told and he called it “the heroes journey”. Finding Joe explores how the heroes journey is relevant and essential in today’s world. It provides a narrative for how to live a fully realized life or as Campbell would simply state “follow your bliss”. The film takes us on an inspirational quest of self-discovery. As you slay dragons and uncover treasures, you just may find that the holy grail you seek is closer than you think.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Campbell's career and influence encompass much wider fields of interest than are considered here, despite the pic's colorful surface.
Rotten: Solomon's approach places didacticism over revelation. The film is weighed down by a barrage of declarations from zealots in which wisdom is intertwined with the self-evident and platitudinous.
Rotten: Everyone's comments are thoughtful and articulate but everyone stays "on message" so steadfastly that no dialogue ever ensues. It's 20 people giving the same lecture.
Fresh: Finding Joe feels like a homemade quilt: It's warm and comforting, but visually busy, with a repeating pattern that some will find stuffy and overwhelming.

Finding Joe
Great exposition of Joe Campbell's work on the "Hero" motif and the mythological themes behind it. I vigorously disagree with the bad reviews in Rotten Tomatoes.
