Plot Summary
Screen legend Fred Astaire is an Irish rogue whose leprechaun comes to life in the American South. A whimsical, musical fantasy directed by mastermind Francis Ford Coppola ("Bram Stoker's Dracula," "The Godfather") and co-starring pop star/actress Petula Clark ("Goodbye, Mr. Chips"), this story is pure enchantment. Leonard Maltin calls this "elegant and witty... the best movie musical of its era."

Rotten: Joyless.
Fresh: A light, pastoral fantasy with civil rights angles, underscored by comedy values.
Fresh: A marvelous evening right up to its last shot of Astaire walking away down a country road.
Rotten: It's Fred Astaire's last musical and a sorry farewell.
Customer Reviews
An awkward gem.
There are some things that just aren't right about this movie, but it rises above the "dated" look and some poor casting to still be a delight to watch. The music is gorgeous, the story line is quirky, and then there is Fred Astaire, Petula Clark and Tommy Sands pulling this movie from a disaster to a higher level. Very enjoyalbe despite its flaws.
Great Movie to Watch for St. Patrick
I watch this movie every year as part of my birthday celebration. Great music and dancing. Very funny! Best classical movie for the Luck of the Irish!
