Plot Summary
Set in New York during the height of World War II, Focus recounts the unraveling of an American community when the identity of a man (William H. Macy) and his wife (Laura Dern) are mistaken. Slowly ostracized at home and work, they learn the value of self and solidarity as they struggle to maintain dignity and find happiness. Focus marks the directorial debut of award-winning photographer Neal Slavin, and is adapted by Kendrew Lascelles from the Arthur Miller novel of the same name. The film stars William H. Macy, Laura Dern, David Paymer and Meat Loaf Aday. (English)

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: All too often seems like preaching to the choir instead of the gut-wrenching drama it wants to be, could have been -- and sometimes is.
Rotten: Seems embalmed in its own time, an earnest and handsomely crafted museum piece.
Fresh: A deliberate attempt to look and feel like a 1940s social problems picture, right down to the texture of the color photography.
Fresh: A powerful though overwrought study of bigotry and fear.

This is a great film. It really illuminates the lives of people on the outside of society. I enjoyed it a lot.
Loved it.
Really enjoyed this movie! provides a valuable new perspective, and the acting is tremendous.
Brilliant!
This was one of the best and most thought-provoking movies I've seen. It is well-done and lights a corner of American history the books would like to keep hidden.
