Plot Summary
Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent was an extension of his work on The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes -- but this time out, he was working in Hollywood with top American (and British) talent at his disposal. The result was his first international-scale thriller, carrying us across the Atlantic with a hapless hero (Joel McCrea) trying to stay in front of a glib-tongued spy-master (Herbert Marshall), all of it strangely anticipatory of the director's North By Northwest (right down to the hero's juggling a couple of names).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Into it Director Alfred Hitchcock, whose unmistakable stamp the picture bears, has packed about as much romantic action, melodramatic hullabaloo, comical diversion and illusion of momentous consequence as the liveliest imagination could conceive.
Fresh: Story is essentially the old cops-and-robbers. But it has been set in a background of international political intrigue of the largest order.
Fresh: This film contains one of Hitchcock's most famous set pieces -- an assassination in the rain -- but otherwise remains a second-rate effort, as immensely enjoyable as it is.
Fresh: Hitchcock's espionage thriller is a thoroughly enjoyable affair, complete with some of his most memorable set pieces.
